The C&M Difference
This elevator shaft is manufactured by C&M in Griffith, NSW from 4140 bright bar rather than being treated as a generic replacement component. Critical shaft diameters, keyways and threaded mounting points are machined to provide a direct-fit replacement for the original clean grain elevator top shaft.
The electroplated zinc finish provides corrosion protection to the finished component, while the 4140 steel construction provides a strong foundation for the shaft's working surfaces and drive connections.
Expert Maintenance Review
When replacing the clean grain elevator top shaft, inspect the keyways and adjoining sprocket or drive components for fretting, movement or excessive wear. Also check the bearing locations for scoring or looseness and inspect the elevator chain and sprockets while the upper elevator assembly is accessible.
A worn sprocket, bearing or loose keyed connection can place additional load on a new shaft and contribute to accelerated wear through the clean grain elevator drive.
Recommended Maintenance Check:
Inspect the upper and lower clean grain elevator sprockets, bearings and elevator chain when replacing the top shaft. Worn sprocket teeth or excessive chain wear can increase loading on the shaft and adjoining drive components.
Installation Tip
Before assembly, make sure the keyways and mating components are clean and free from burrs or damage. Check that the sprocket and bearings fit correctly on their respective shaft surfaces and that the keyed components are fully seated. After assembly, rotate the elevator drive by hand where practical to confirm correct alignment and free movement before returning the machine to service.
